5 Miles Today
I have to say again that I had forgotten how nice it is to walk in the cool morning air. I was about a mile from the house when I spotted a small stick on the side walk. As I got closer I realized it wasn't a stick at all; it was a tiny snake. Couldn't have been more than 8 inches and started to wiggle quite a bit. I watched it for a few minutes then I walked on. Had I found this little guy 40 years ago, I'd have picked it up and put it back in the grass. But, I have to fess up that I just walked on by; no sense in borrowing trouble!

I cut my walk short to attend several events today featuring Jeannette Walls, the author of "The Glass Castle"; this years selection for Richardson Reads One Book. Jeannette is an intelligent, warm and approachable person and I was able to visit with her several times today. This book is a thought provoking memoir and will leave you with many mixed feelings. I'm glad I took the time to read it and especially to meet this complex woman who wrote it.

Thought for the day:
