I had good intentions of an early 10 mile walk this a.m. But, yesterday's 14 mile hike along with a full afternoon of running errands, grocery shopping and having thirteen for dinner chewed up more of my energy than I thought. So, I slept in until 7:00 a.m. and headed out about 8:00 a.m. After logging in 4 miles, I called it quits and headed home. Later in the afternoon, I did laps in the pool along with water aerobics.

I also had this idea for a training shirt...
whaddya think?
Saturday, August 25 ~ 14.0 Miles
Met up with four of my teammates at the beginning of the White Rock Creek Trail at 6:15 a.m. Together, we walked to White Rock Lake and back. We finished at 10:30 a.m., but gosh was it ever hot.... I drank four 8 oz. bottles of water and also two 24 oz. bottles of Gatorade. Kept my bandana wet and used it non-stop for the last hour to cool down my neck and face.
When we got back close to where we started, I heard someone call out "Lois, is that you and your gang?" Kinda took me by surprise.... I wondered who in the world would find me on this trail this early in the day? I looked over to see the lady I wrote about meeting on August 5th at a Starbucks just after I had finished a 10 mile training walk. Anyway, she looks terrific and she said she had recently done a 130 mile bicycle ride. (And, remember, she had a bi-lateral lumpectomy about 6 weeks ago.) She said she starts her radiation treatments on September 4th and I wished her well. I did mention the need for her to add more protein to her diet during treatments.
While trudging forward for the last bunch of miles, I thought about cancer cells and how surely they cannot survive this outrageous heat and humidity and since I've been spending lots of time sweating these days, I must surely be cancer free. Regardless, that's a rather nice thought, I'm sure you'd agree :o)
Friday, August 24 ~ No Miles
Not able to walk this a.m. Took mom to a 9:00 a.m. orthopedic appointment and then to a noon physical therapy appointment. Too hot in the afternoon to try to walk.
Thought for the Day: If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning. It's your choice!
Thursday, August 23 ~ 6.5 Miles
Got up and out the door by 6:30 a.m. Made a 6.5 jaunt around the neighborhood. Cut my walk short to get ready and take mom to the doctor.
