Thursday, July 12th - No Training
Tomorrow I've committed my self to an extra early rise and walk before our house "wakes up".... must remember to slather on the skeeter spray though. I intend to keep my promise of "no more mosquito mambo dancing" this year!
I did take a moment to add up my training miles since February ~ 307.5!!!
Wednesday, July 10th ~ No Training
Took mom to an orthopedic physician today. Need to take her to a physical therapist in the a.m. also.
Bittersweet day for me; I was to leave for a two week "girls" trip to Memphis to see the marching of the ducks at the Peabody Hotel, Graceland, Nashville, week on the beach in Emerald Isle, NC, Biltmore and Tunica casinos.... but we all only get one "mom" and I can't think of anyone better to take care of mine than me. There will be other trips in the future though!
Plus, I really need to focus on my Breast Cancer 3 Day Training anyway. Had I gone on the trip, I had my buddies committed to sitting in the parking lot counting my laps around the hotel and toasting me with their glass of wine as I cruised by!
Tuesday, July 9th ~ 3.0 Miles
Just a quick walk between caring for mom. Shin much better today. Will avoid the "Mosquito Mamb0" by using DEET spray. Hate to use chemicals, but hate skeeters even more!
Monday, July 8th ~ 3.5 Miles
Got a few miles logged this a.m., but they weren't easy. Air was heavy and humid..... drank 3 bottles of water in this 3. 5 mile walk.
Sunday, July 7th ~ No Training
Hard to believe, but shin still sore; took care of mom for most of the day instead. Interesting evening though. I, along with two friends who are also breast cancer survivors, put on all of our pink Komen race gear and went to the Meyerson. We joined several other survivors in surprising Dr. Timothy Seelig, of the of the Turtle Creek Chorale, who was directing his final performance. During their performance of a special survivors song, we quietly walked down the aisles and waited for Dr. Seelig to realize we were there. About half way through the song, he turned and saw half of us, then turned again and saw the rest of us all waiving our Komen race hats at him. He responded by blowing kisses to us.... It was a special evening and we survivors all agreed we were glad we had gone. We have also vowed to get together for tea one day soon. How cool is that?
Saturday, July 6th ~ No Training
Shin still sore and spent the day taking care of my mom anyway.
Friday, July 5th ~ No Training
Pulled a muscle in my shin yesterday doing the "Mosquito Mambo" no doubt. Too sore to walk. Bad day too... my 82 year-old mom tripped over a concrete curb stop at the local grocery store. (Curb stop was between two handicap spaces and was askew; poor mom tried to navigate around/over it, but wasn't successful). After a trip to the ER, we found out she had fractured bones in her right foot and right shoulder, bruised both knees, her right elbow and busted her lip. The good news is that she didn't break a hip or leg.........
