Woke up abou
t 3:45 a.m. today. Left the house at 4:45 p.m. and drove to Arlington for the 11 mile training walk and 3 Day Expo. Within minutes, one of my favorite songs came on the radio; Bill Withers "Lean on Me"..... seemed like a fitting start for the morning considering the cause!

Today was special as I got to meet the last two of my "team mates". Sabine & Mel haven't been able to train with the rest of us due to their work and family schedules. U
ntil this a.m. While I was standing right below the event coordinator who was using a bull horn, my cell phone rang. It was Sabine asking where I was. Well, I said I was right in front and was wearing a pink shirt and lime green shorts. Within seconds, she was saying "there you are!" and she had been maybe 10 feet from me the whole time. So we walked towards each other before we realized we should both hang up :o) This picture was taken about 6:30 a.m., just before the walk started. (Right to left: Mel, Sabine and me)

I also met a wonderful young lady who shared part of her story. She, her parents and five siblings walked from Cambodia to Thailand 30 years ago to seek a better life. She was just nine years old and still vividly remembers that journey which took many months. Although she does not have any breast cancer in her family, she is walking for others and for a cure. I thoroughly enjoyed walking with her and getting to know her. I did get her email address and we hope to walk together in the Dallas Komen Race for the Cure in mid-October (the weekend before the 3 Day).

Stephanie is another energetic & determined young lady who helped coordinate todays walk. Thought I'd share a picture of her back sack with you.... (easier to read if you click on the photo)
All-in-all, the walk was a good one. It didn't rain, it was just a bit cloudy and we enjoyed a nice breeze up until the last half hour when the sun started to bake us. I was also glad at our time; started at 6:38 a.m. and finished the 11 miles at 9:50 a.m. That included a restroom break and a quick run into CVS to get a cold Gatorade!
