Yesterday was a busy one. I started out the morning by getting a quick 2.5 mile walk in. After that, I spent a few hours at The Heart Hospital in Plano with a friend who's husband was having a heart cath. The test showed he needs a triple by-pass operation and that is scheduled for Monday. Gotta say that this hospital was very "Star Trek". Thought for sure I'd see Dr. McCoy or Spock "beam in" at any moment. Very zoomie architecture (inside & out) and the staff all wear red and black (not sure about the docs; I didn't meet any of those). The rooms are very high tech with lots of life saving gadgets everywhere.
After that, I went down to big Baylor to visit my new friend who had a double mastectomy with reconstruction on Wednesday. She looks like a million bucks and is doing terrific! Looks like she'll get to go home tomorrow. I'm so thrilled for her. Her next challenge is an oopherectomy in a few months. All of this was to avoid breast cancer (she carries the BRCA 1 gene, so she is high risk). And, maybe one day soon, there will be better treatments so that prophylactic (preventive) surgeries won't be necessary to avoid cancer. Another one of the many reasons why I am walking in the Breast 3 Day.
