11 Miles Today
Komen Race for the Cure - Plan A
Jumped out of bed at 5:00 a.m. today. Met up with four of my teammates at the Richardson Library at 6:00 a.m. to carpool to the 8:00 a.m. Komen Race for the Cure at Northpark Mall. (We would have taken the DART light rail but decided to drive since we had a "premier" parking pass.)
We buzzed south on Central Expressway, got off at the Park exit and when we neared the Park & Central intersection around 6:25 a.m., traffic came to a screeching and complete halt. For the next hour and a half, we inched ever so slowly towards our "premier" parking destination, the Macy's parking garage. We could see it right up ahead, but the traffic was at a virtual standstill. I finally got out of the back seat of the car and was walking towards the garage to find out what was up when another walker told me that she had already been down there and the guard refused to open the garage regardless of what the parking passes showed. Que sera sera...
Komen for the Cure - Plan B
So, here we were stuck in traffic with nowhere to go and nowhere to park with the race to begin within minutes. We took a vote and it was unanimous... with our enthusiasm now squashed, we'd go to Plan B..... eat breakfast ... you know the old saying "when life hands you lemons".... So, after another ten minutes or so of wiggling into the left lane, we were finally headed back north to Richardson. And, for several miles, all we could see were the headlights from cars in the south bound lanes... not moving .....
We ended up at the House Cafe and "Ate for the Cure".... we all had a great time drinking coffee, eating migas and visiting ....
Needless to say, I had been looking forward to experiencing the energy of the event since my surgery last year. I'll admit I was a tad more than disappointed.... When I got home after breakfast, I watched some of the post race festivities on TV... just like I did last year from my hospital bed.
Later on, I decided to go for an 11 mile walk, enjoy the fabulous weather and, as usual, reflect on all of the blessings in my life ...
I did find a beat up nickel in the middle of Campbell Road; so training "still makes cents". Total coins found so far= $1.53
MILES NOW TOTAL AN EVEN 700!!! That is even hard for me to realize and I walked them!
