10 Miles Today
Left the house at 5:50 a.m. this morning with a Bonnie Raitt CD blasting.... drove to the Starbucks in front of Medical City hospital to walk the White Rock Creek Trail. While passing the CVS drugstore on Coit, I noticed that some of the sign letters were burned out. The lit up letters spelled this odd message "CVS/_harm_cy". Maybe I should go inside and "see why (cy)" they're advertising "harm"!

Met up with 2 of my teammates as well as several terrific ladies from an Arlington team. I have to say that I really enjoyed meeting this particular group. One walker is an OR nurse who worked at "big" Baylor for, I think she said 15 years. She is very interesting to talk to and I hope we keep in touch (I think so as she may go with me to the Joanie Hatcher survivor luncheon in a few weeks). Another walker and I have something unusual in common also. She is also gluten intolerant and has been for many years. She started rattling off good recipes and I knew right then, I had to get her email address to get the recipes written down.

We finished our 10 mile walk about 9:20 a.m. and several ladies were standing outside Starbucks while I was inside groveling a pen from the cashier to write down email addresses to keep in touch.

In came a woman about my age along with one of my new walker friends. This woman evidently saw our group on the sidewalk and asked if we were doing the 3 Day Breast Cancer walk. One lady said yes and so this woman wanted to talk to a breast cancer survivor which is why they came inside to me (I was the only survivor walking this a.m. and I'm pretty easy to spot too since I have no boobs). Anyway, she said she was hoping to find a good source for a cancer support group. I told her that although I have not been to this particular place yet, I thought that Gilda's club looked to be a very good one. When she heard my name, she lit up and said she had read the Dallas Morning News article about me and has it on her desk top. It truly made my morning knowing that I had touched yet another person with my own story.

This courageous lady had a bi-lateral lumpectomy along with lymph nodes removed just two weeks ago and is already biking 30 miles at a time. I feel like a wimp compared to her! I did tell her to keep in touch and that I'd be happy to go with her to a Gilda's Club meeting soon if she wanted. I've been planning on going anyway, but somehow too much stuff seems to be happening in my life to affored the time to get there. Maybe this coming week.
