Taking the day off today sort of.

Today is mostly a miracle and also a milestone for me. Twenty years ago, on May 7th, 1987, I was diagnosed with Hodgkins disease and since then, I have survived 5 additional cancers. As I write this, you need to know that I feel absolutely wonderful and healthy. Zippedeedoodah!

Bet you’re wondering what how I plan to spend the day. Well, in a most unusual way. About a month ago, a lady from my church called to ask if I would speak at the monthly healing service and I said sure. You might want to know that I have never attended a healing service at our church before and also that I had no idea what the actual date was. So, today seems to be guided by divine intervention for me.

Sure seems appropriate that I will be in church tonight knowing that it has been though faith (my physicians, family & humor also) that I am still here. And, so I am spending the day reflecting about the last 20 years and thinking about what I want to share tonight.

Thanks to all of you for your support, prayers and friendship. TWENTY years today….. and my journey continues.

Sunday, May 6 ~ 10 Miles
Well, I did a total of 10 miles in bits and pieces..... started out at 6:45 a.m. with 2.5 miles around the neighborhood. Came home, drank water..... headed out again 3.0 miles roundtrip to mom's. Came home again, drank more water, ate lunch and headed to Whole Foods.

On the way to Whole Foods, there is a yard along Beltline that has beautiful rose bushes planted along their chain link fence. Several times while walking, I have literally "stopped to smell the roses". It makes my heart smile and I recall the rose bushes in my own neighborhood as a kid back in Virginia. Anway, this time, I went up to the front door and rang the doorbell. A nice, older gentleman answered the door and I told him I just wanted to thank him for his rose bushes and the joy they give me.

We chatted for awhile and then I continued on past the Cottonwood Arts Festival to Dos Rios restaurant. Richard and I eat there quite often and know the owners Reuben & his sister Rose. I went to the bar in my smashing sweaty exercise clothes and asked Reuben if they were giving out free water. And, of course, he smiled as he handed me a large glass of ice water.

After that, I did go to Whole Foods and splurged on a Jamba Juice smoothie. Then, walked back home. Took another quick rest, then did my final 2.5 miles around the neighborhood.

So, 10 total miles (the hard way)..... didn't get much else done around the house, but so what? :o)
