Hello eveyone! This is my first post, so it's a long one. I'll try to post daily from now on and keep them brief. (And, a special THANK YOU to all of you who have supported me so far; notes will be mailed to you shortly, I promise!).
On February 18th, I decided it was finally my time to do the 3 day walk for breast cancer. So, that is the day I registered for the event and that very day, I started walking. Since then, I've been at it almost daily. Some days just 2 miles, others more. From the start, I knew I needed to build up the miles slowly due to my past lung surgery, asthma and recent hysterectomy. But, those are minor obstacles as I feel great these days!
Here are a few thoughts from the last few days to catch up:
March 7th:
Tied on my sneakers, leashed Bogie and headed north. Walked to the shopping center where mom was getting her hair "done". Saw her as she was backing out of her parking spot, waved my arms like a mad woman, but couldn't get her attention. She turned left to who knows where and I turned right and went on to her apartment anyway. Watered me, watered Bogie.... mom was a no show :o) 3 Mile Day and weather was terrific!!
March 8th:
Donned the shoes, leashed Bogie and off we went. Beautiful day, sunny and cool. Spring has truly arrived. All the Bradford Pear trees are in full bloom. Looks like it's snowing on our street. I was just a quarter mile into the walk when I almost swallowed a gnat. Yeecch, close call. Another reason to keep my mouth shut, literally! Ha. 2 Mile Day, glorious weather...
March 9th:
Three miles in the neighborhood today. Neighbors are starting to notice me walk by and then, half an hour later, pass again.... they must think I'm nuts. I like walking our street though. Seems like there is always someone renovating their home and many are now starting spring landscaping. And, there is usually someone to stop and chat with. 3 Mile day
March 10th:
Short, 2 mile day in the early A.M. Not much street activity yet. Added extra steps by picking up neighbors newspapers at the curb and taking them to their front door. Haven't done this in awhile due to recent surgeries. They have probably been wondering where their newspaper faerie has been! Cut walk short to go to Richardson Regiona Med Ctr for a Breast 3 Day orientation. Met some nice ladies there.
March 11th:
Walked to my friend Lana's house to pick up Bogie. I had taken Bogie with me to her house the night before for a visit and left him there for a "sleepover". "Aunt" Lana is wonderful and keeps a bed and treat jar there just for him! Roundtrip to Lana's and back is 4 and a half miles. I added another 2 miles around the neighborhood "because I could". Weather was lovely. Not 70 degrees and a light breeze to stay cool.
March 12th:
It's the morning after the 6 and a half mile walk. Legs are in good shape and feet feel terrific. Last Saturday I went to "Run On" and bought a good pair of "sneakers" and several pairs of "great" socks. Feels like I'm walking on air. And, no aches, pains or blisters. Did I dream this?
More on the sneakers tomorrow.... stay tuned.

You're my superhero! I can't believe you walked all the way to Lana's! Rick has a nice hottub to soothe those muscles if you go a little further!!!
